Etta James

Happy birthday Ms. Etta James, born today in 1938. While best known for the delicate string serenade and huge vocals of “At Last,” I prefer her more raucous bluesy side, of which this song is a perfect example:

I Just Wanna Make Love To You” – Etta James

Oh, you have GOT to love the lyrics, “All I want to do is wash your clothes . . . All I wanna do is make your bread, just to make sure you’re well fed. I don’t want you sad and blue, I just wanna make love to you, oooooo.” Every man’s domestic dream?

Although that is a whole intimidating lot o’ woman to love.

  • I just found you today, and haven’t been so excited about discovering a blog since finding Songs:Ilinois more than a year ago. Great stuff! I’m especially glad to see the Italian music; I lived in the Veneto and Tuscany in the early ’80s, so my tastes ran to Francesco de Gregori and Pino Daniele. I’m also a fan of Ryan Adams and anything on the folky singer-songwriter side. And it’s always great to see more female music bloggers. Thanks, and keep it up!

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."

"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
