Just a quickie

I have had this on repeat lately because it makes me happy:

Feeder, “Home For Summer

Lovely, lovely tune.

Oh, and I have one other Feeder track I have been meaning to post as well. The November 2005 issue of Q Magazine came with some Lennon cover songs, and this is one of the many good ones on there (other artists included Stereophonics, Badly Drawn Boy, The Subways, Paul Weller, etc.). I’d love to get more of the tracks if anyone has ‘em:

Feeder, “Beautiful Boy

Enjoy! Sorry no Monday Music Roundup today. I figure what with the New Year mix and all I would spoil you if I posted too many songs. All in moderation, my dears.

BONUS: You can find a nice Zombies track & OK Go cover over at Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands. Thanks Chad!

Cat Power touring with Memphis Rhythm Band

The smoky Ms. Chan (pronounced “Shawn”) Marshall (a.k.a. Cat Power) is taking to the road in 2006 for a few shows. If you are lucky enough to live in one of these towns, you might check her out. Sometimes she is amazing live, other times I have heard a bit uneven. But I would take my chances, personally:

Feb 14 – NYC – Town Hall
Feb 18 – Boston – Berklee Performance Center
Feb 20 – Seattle – Moore Theatre
Feb 22- Los Angeles – Wilshire Ebell
Feb 23 – San Francisco- Palace of Fine Arts
Feb 24 – San Francisco- Palace of Fine Arts
Feb 26 – Chicago – The Vic
Mar 04 – London – The Barbican
Mar 08 – Paris – Grand Rex

DOWNLOAD: Here is the title track from her latest CD, The Greatest,” coming out January 24, 2006.

P.S. Am I the only one who didn’t know how hot she was? Just discovered this in trolling for the pic for the post.

Mix for the new year

As we stand at the threshold of 2006, I have been playing around with some songs and have made up a mix of music for you all to start the new year off RIGHT. These are not all overtly “New Year’s” themed, I left off a lot of the typical holiday songs and instead focused on the way a new year feels to me.

Lots of leitmotifs here surrounding topics such as fresh starts, new beginnings, and music that just feels unsullied and pure (such as the Eels bookend tracks at the start and end). Then to top it all off, a healthy dose of positive thinking and optimism. Hopefully something you can listen to throughout January and beyond.

Since you should listen to the whole thing as a comprehensive unit, and not individually (mix order is serious stuff!) there is just one link to download the zip mix with all the songs at the end of the post.

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
