Off to wait for a friend

Just a quickie as we head out the door to see Pearl Jam in Denver with Tom Petty. I think this is my 8th or 9th Pearl Jam concert, and my first since 2000 (!). So I am no doubt overdue. Here is some appropriate music as I set off to collect my fanclub seats and wait, no doubt, in line.

Waiting On A Friend” (Rolling Stones cover) – Pearl Jam
06/23/06 in Pittsburgh, first time ever played

And a lovely bonus that a friend sent to me this morning, in honor of Pearl Jam playing with Tom Petty tonight: two fantastic duets from their last show a few nights ago (6/30/06 Summerfest in Milwaukee):

The Waiting” – Tom Petty & Eddie Vedder

American Girl” – Tom Petty & Eddie Vedder

The waiting is the hardest part. I am excited. If you are heading to the show and happen to see me enjoying myself (singing along, no doubt, drumming on my legs with my palms), say hi! I’ve got a red tank top on today.

PS – Drop the leash!

  • Looking forward to hearing your take on the show. Was there last night, but didn’t see you. Too many red tank tops in the crowd. Only my second PJ show and well worth the cost and effort.

    My comments:
    1. Kind of an odd venue to see PJ; the arena was remarkably subdued. Lots of people sitting through the set.
    2. Love the sing-a-long, but Eddie should have been miked a bit better. The drunk twenty-something’s version of Betterman wasn’t quite as powerful. Too often, the crowd overwhelmed the band.
    3. Ok, so they’re co-headliners, but the band order was all wrong. Following the frenetic PJ set with the slick and laid back set of the heartbreakers felt like a non-sequitor. Two people in my row were SLEEPING during the TP set! I had trouble keeping my eyes open. Was it the alcohol, the drugs, or the way the energy dipped?

All in all a fantastic show.

  • N,
Sorry, should have given credit this time, but I forgot in my haste to get out the door. PearlJam.com posts some fantabulous pictures of every single show on this tour, and that’s where I got this one for the Summerfest 6/30 show. I am heading there now to see if they’ve posted any pics yet from last night…

  • That version of “Waiting On A Friend” is brilliant. Not the Stones song I would’ve chosen for them to cover, but they surprised me with such a good performance of it.

I’ll love you forever if you repost PJ’s cover of Springsteen’s “Atlantic City.” I mislabeled it when I downloaded it awhile back, and I accidentally deleted it the other day. EZ Archive isn’t playing nice and letting me download it again.

Thanks for the great tunes, as always!

  • You made my lIfe by posting these. I was Feeling Minnesota Envy when I heard Pearl Jam and Tom Petty would be together for these shows. They’re my two faves. You rock!

  • What a great find! I went to both Summerfest shows but the experience was incomplete until I found these songs today.

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
