Feist: new album news (Reminder) / old album sounds (Monarch)
Ms. Leslie Feist (sometimes Broken-Social-Scenestress, songbird solo artist of late, full-time awesome) announced details today of her follow-up release to the spirited Let it Die (2004) and (my #3 of 2006) Open Season: Remixes and Collabs. Due out May 1 in the US and April 23 most other places, the new album is called The Reminder and sports one of the coolest/elegant/imaginative/understated covers in recent months. Feist likes lines.
A few new tour dates also announced:
Brighton, UK April 16 at Komedia
London April 17 at Shepherd’s Bush Empire
Printemps de Bourges Festival April 19 in France
Berlin April 23 at Hebbel Am Ufer
Paris April 26 at Le Grand Rex
Canadian & East Coast US tour dates forthcoming, as well as summer festivals worldwide.
This gives me a timely reminder to post the next album in my “Before They Were Blogged” featurette. Unless you lived in or around Toronto in 1999, or have been a fan of Feist since when this was commercially available, her first album Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down) is a tough one to locate for your distinct listening pleasure. A limited number of these were made, but these songs are a joy to hear. Of course. (thx Mike!)

A couple of tracks are cool but giving away an artists whole album kills the artist. This is tacky.

Anon, this Monarch album is no longer commercially available, at least not that I could find anywhere. If I am wrong, and you can buy these songs, then I would take them down. It’s not tacky if you can’t get it anywhere else. How does posting something that you can’t buy from Feist kill album sales? Rather, I would think it would possibly encourage stronger appreciation of her music and create new fans, thereby increasing album sales.

yes heather, i totally agree with u. since the album can hardly be found anymore, there’s nothing wrong with posting up the tracks so that we can all share the great music & more ppl can get to know feist, who’s a great artiste. thanks for ur efforts in sourcing & posting up all these rare tracks.. i believe that mp3 blogs like u are helping to boost the industry instead of killing it by allowing the music of the artistes to reach even more ppl. thats a naggy enough comment.. all i gotta say is, i’m a huge fan of ur lovely blog! KEEP WRITING

There’s a duet Feist did with Eirik from Kings of Convenience, for the new album, but question remains whether it actually made The Reminder… We’ll have to wait and see…

thank you, thank you, thank you! you are the one who got me hooked on her and created a new fan with a post. I have purchased all her commercially available albums and to get this is a bonus.
