"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson
Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
Weird, I also first saw that at a party, on the host’s refrigerator.
It’s good to know who our overlord is, I guess. Luck be a lady tonight!

Dean Martin used to say this all the time (though he said “Frank’s”, not “Sinatra’s”). His son’s memoir talks about Dean having it printed on something (hat, shirt…can’t remember).

‘She’s slender, but she’s tender, she makes my heart surrender’ – ‘My Lean baby’ – a b side that turns up on ‘Swing Easy’ now – characterises the Sinatra thing – a ‘do do do’ that Sting and the Fratelli’s would nod at and then a slew of wonderful lyrics, unburdened by the need for repetition, delivered with verve and insouciance by the man.
Highlights? Most of the Capitol albums – swinging affair being even more swinging and swoonsome than ‘Songs for Swinging Lovers’;'When no one cares’ the most haunting with ‘Where do you go’ being the track which has such a modern feel in its melancholy that its reverberations remain ever present.
One to look out for is the live album from 1959 in Australia which features a knockout version of ‘Night and Day’.
All time favourite – ‘Stars fell on Alabama’ (last night) – the most romantic and richly sensual thing ever recorded.
Called my little boy Frank in tribute – his sister is called Ella……was there ever a decade so which in words and music. It’s his world – stars fractured bama last night……nobody else could sing that and get away with it!

Beautiful. I LOVE refrigerator magnets; my wife bought me one for Valentine’s Day that says: “Jesus Is Coming – Look Busy”.
