Heather,
I have seen a million shows, and I rocked em all. From Pearl Jam to Pink Floyd, NONE have compared to seeing the Foo Fighters at the intimate settings of the House Of Blues in Anaheim CA. The benefit show for Musicians Assistance Program (MAP), held in between album releases and major arena tours was a virtual greatest hits barrage that left their audience exhausted and truly rocked upon completion. I swear, there is a part of me that doesn’t even want to see the Foos live again for fear that it would spoil the memory of that night.

I’m not a Bee Gees fan but I have to agree with you: they never sounded this good.

From Page Six, NY Post
March 13, 2007 — When your parents are Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, you get first dibs on the jam sessions with Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. Saturday night, the celeb couple’s son, Miles Robbins, 14, played with his band, The Tangents, at Bar East, on First Avenue and 90th Street. Vedder came as a guest of Sarandon and Robbins, and “Eddie jumped onstage and joined the band for a couple of songs, including a hot cover of ‘Watchtower,’ ” said our spy. “Tim was directing traffic, and the place was full of teenagers who were invited by the Robbins family.”
In all, Vedder provided vocals for three songs: Blitzkreig Bop (Ramones), Rockin In The Free World (Neil Young) and All Along The Watchtower (Dylan). And the band themselves, The Tangents, are pretty good — check the MySpace link above. Frickin how do you top an experience like that at 14? That never happened in my freshman-year world. Unfortunately.
Heather,
I’m sure you’ve heard Pete Yorn do the full cover of Dancing in the Dark. When you hear it played in a tempo that matches the mood of the lyrics, stripped of synth, you realize that it is actually an amazing song, and ranks right up there with some of the best of his canon.
The same goes for his acoustic demo for Born in the USA recorded during the Nebraska sessions. The album Born in the USA with a few notable exceptions is just as dark lyrically as Nebraska, and I think that’s what makes it brilliant. That juxtaposition of desperation in the words against feelings of hope in the lyrics. It completely captured the spirit of the mid 80s.

The Foo Fighters are one of those bands blessed with the ability to rock one of those soulless arena venues to their very foundations, as they did when I saw them at the SECC a couple of years ago. They’ve just announced a date at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Stadium in August, and I’d be there in a shot if I could affourd eighty quid for a pair of tickets right now!!

I smiled at that too cos I knew what you meant….Broken Radio, fantastic song. YEP it comes out today, the record release show was last night at the Bowery (how was it anyone?) and I am tempted to post that song but not sure if I should.

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson
Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
