Oasis covering Ryan Adams, covering Oasis

I like this concept immensely. Back in 2006, Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer did a series of ace live semi-acoustic shows, and at the show on November 26th at London’s Union Chapel they performed Ryan Adams’ arrangement of their song “Wonderwall.” So, so cool to hear them taking on his haunting interpretation, even down to that winding countermelody that Ryan weaves into it.

Wonderwall (Ryan Adams arrangement) – Noel Gallagher & Gem Archer

This is very similar to the version they played in Toronto on Nov 6 – lovely.

  • It’s sweet alright but I still think nothing beats the original 1995 album version of Wonderwall. I mean, the song has since become such an institution it’s hard to fathom it, but if one could now hear it for the first time with a fresh pair of ears, it’d be completely utterly undescribably fantastic.

  • I have a (relatively poor) recording of a charity gig where Noel did Ryan Adams’ version solo and acoustic right after he heard Adams perform it. This was at the point where Noel was tired of performing “Wonderwall” and the slowed down version renewed his interest in the song. It was electric then and always impressive when a great songwriter is able to embrace another musician’s interpretation of his song.

PS Its nice to see another Coloradoan with a little taste in music. Spread your message before American Idol kills everything we love about music.

  • That whole series of gigs Noel and Gem did were fantastic; I can’t wait for the new record.

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
