The insurgency began and you missed it

R.E.M. had a little help tonight at their encore in Philly; Eddie Vedder joined them (and Johnny Marr) onstage to sing the excellent “Begin the Begin.” So many great shows happening from both artists lately, to see them together would be astounding. Until video surfaces (edit: here), I’m gonna have to imagine it went something like this:

UPDATE: mp3 from last night!

  • That is way too much musical talent packed onto one stage. My head may explode.

  • I was watching those REM/Eddie videos last month and I started wondering if I was missing out on REM since all I know from them are the easy to sing to ballads and not much more. I got the first two albuns but I haven’t yet got into it!

this Begin The Begin is really a side of them I’ve never heard before.. much rock and rollish (AH) kinda thing..

is there any rockier REM album? (yeah rock’n'roll dude!!) :P

  • I’ll second the motion to get that hollywood show back up…even for just a little while….or better yet, any show that you may stumble upon from the current tour….saw them last week in “DC”…amazing!

  • @uma pessoa: if you are looking for “rockier REM”, check out their most recent release “Accelerate”…or go back and check out “Monster”…

  • I was just about to suggest that you relay your zip file to this site for them to post:

    http://theultimatebootlegexperience.blogspot.com

but it turns out that they’ve already posted the same recording:

    http://tinyurl.com/5ws3lj

(it can be a bit of a pain to actually download from this site’s posts sometimes, but I guess that’s how they discourage the digital hoarders. Some of the content on there is well worth it, and they’ve posted a lot of stuff up there)

Thanks for that video, though – that is a dream pairing and the perfect song for Vedder.

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
