The Swell Season covers Bruce
A reader who was at Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday night to see The Swell Season sent me this stunning link. Amidst the sweet, sad saxophone, it once again becomes a singalong. Holy heck.
…Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives
I get shivers down my spine and all I wanna do is hold you tight
great post!

I was fortunate enough to be at this show. Their foiling personalities, their genuine love of their work, and Glen’s storytelling make their concerts so great; this was no exception. I didn’t think it was possible to get goosebumps as many times as I did this night. Thanks so much for posting this link. What a great moment, and what talented musicians! Refreshing.

I was really lucky to go to this show, albeit alone, and one of the best things about Glen Hansard is that he tells stories in between the songs. He was talking about going to see Bruce Springsteen as a “young lad.” During the concert, he anxiously asked his friend why everybody was booing–they were actually yelling “Bruce.” It was really cute. When we were getting them to come back to give an encore, the audience started going “Bruuuuuce.” ..I’m sure the sentiment wasn’t lost.
But honestly, I don’t think I would mind at all if every song I heard from now on was sung by The Swell Season. Well, okay I would mind, but they’d be my first choice. Their covers are beautiful.

Wow. That’s eleven minutes of goose-bumps…I didn’t think anyone would ever come close to the original – one of my all-time favorite songs – but this is spectacular. Holy heck, indeed.

I saw Bruce 25 years ago at Memorial Hall In KC KS. Paid 5 bucks and walked in the door; to a large degree it changed my life. I took my best friend Marc back a year later to see him again. Bruce’s music, his.. humanity was one of our connections through out the years. Marc passed away a while ago. I remember both of us looking forward to The River album coming out and Marc going to the record store passing a guy on the way out telling him that yeah it was there. It’s funny how little things like that stay in your memory all these years later. I feel the same way about Glen Hansard. Like Bruce, he seems like someone you could talk to and he would understand. It’s definitely the “best part of us” and I feel, like Bruce, Glen gets that. Thanks so much for posting that video and for your wonderful blog, I look for it every day.

Hi Again
I got to thinking about it and the concert I was talking about was actually 35 (!) years ago November of 75 right after Born To Run came out. Good God.

I think… I just died and went to heaven.
Don’t ya just LOVE it when your favourite artists cover your other favourite artists? I’m gonna have this one on repeat for awhile.
