Stream the Local Natives in full

On Monday, Pitchfork bestowed the coveted designation of “Best New Music” on Los Angeles’ Local Natives, a well-deserved feat for this band I’ve been loving ever since they wooed me last summer with their propulsive melodies, joyful urgency, and clattery Simon & Garfunkel covers in the backyard.

The band just sent me this link for you to stream their whole album, and I think you should. “World News” remains one of the very best things I heard all of last year. Their debut full-length Gorilla Manor came out yesterday on Frenchkiss Records (The Hold Steady, Freelance Whales).

And this should be fun….

  • What a great album! Thanks again Heather, I first heard about them on your blog.
I saw them yesterday in Paris, they are absolutely amazing live. There are such an urgency in their voices, lots of drumming, something really intense.. anyway, I lack the vocabulary to describe their music, I’d rather leave it to you :P

  • Sasquatch! isn’t in Seattle – it’s in George, WA. I hate how bands refer to the Gorge as a Seattle venue to make it sound bigger and better. The Gorge is as much Spokane as it is Seattle – in fact, I would argue it’s more Spokane and Eastern Washington. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gorge_Amphitheatre

  • noted, agreed, and updated! i agree, it’s like how every band that plays Shoreline in Mountain View, CA likes to yell things like “hellooooooo San Franciscooooooooooo!” :)

  • Wow – I’m not trying to be picky…. but…. on May 25th, that show is in Spokane, WA – not Spokane, WI
    Thanks!
    LOVE your blog!

  • wow, this is so great that you can put the whole album up for us to listen to, which I am doing right now, and loving it! I’m going to do my best to see them at the Necktie when they swing through Philly.

"I love the relationship that anyone has with music: because there's something in us that is beyond the reach of words, something that eludes and defies our best attempts to spit it out. It's the best part of us, probably, the richest and strangest part..."
—Nick Hornby, Songbook
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel."
—Hunter S. Thompson

Mp3s are for sampling purposes, kinda like when they give you the cheese cube at Costco, knowing that you'll often go home with having bought the whole 7 lb. spiced Brie log. They are left up for a limited time. If you LIKE the music, go and support these artists, buy their schwag, go to their concerts, purchase their CDs/records and tell all your friends. Rock on.
