brighten my northern sky
Northern Sky (Nick Drake) – Denison Witmer
been a long time that I’ve waited
been a long that I’ve known
been a long time that I’ve wondered through the people I have known
would you love me for my money? could you love me for my head?
would you love me through the winter?
would you love me till I’m dead?
oh, if you would and you could, come blow your horn on high

Quite possibly my favorite song of all time.

something about the tenor innocence in denison’s voice completely slays me on this version, too. so unvarnished.

Seems perfect to start the week with the song we played as our first dance, the day after my wife and I had an incredible weekend together celebrating her birthday and having dated for 7 years. Thanks

Have you heard Denison’s cover of “Have You Forgotten?” Completely heartbreaking and beautiful.

Lucent;liminal and lovely. There is a touching, heartbreaking innocence to this vocal and also a terrible weary sorrow suggesting the waiting has almost broken the singer.
Brighten my northern sky sounding to these ears like help me to sleep tonight or the sound of the morning after the longest of nights.
Fabulous post.

I was a bit suspect to hear anyone cover Nick Drake, but this is quite beautiful. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for this…beautiful. Nick Drake’s version made my wedding mix, which was not cheesy and MANY choice songs did not make the cut. Makes me cry (tears of joy) every time.
